Level - Requirements and Description

Confirmed (Intermediate/Advanced)

This level is for dancers who are very comfortable with the basics but continue to discover new moves and techniques. They explore and develop their interpretation, musicality, and complex variations without being completely comfortable with these topics.

These are experienced dancers who regularly practice their discipline outside of the classes they attend.

They generally have between 3 and 6 years of experience in the specific discipline.

Balboa

Balboa

Le Balboa est une danse de couple qui trouve ses origines dans les clubs de danse de Balboa Island, en Californie, dans les années 1920 et 1930. Cette danse élégante et fluide se caractérise par ses mouvements rapides et compacts, ainsi que par sa connexion intime entre les partenaires.


La danse Balboa met l'accent sur le mouvement du torse et du haut du corps. Les danseurs maintiennent une position de danse serrée, avec une connexion étroite entre les poitrines, permettant une communication claire et une conduite fluide. Les mouvements sont réalisés principalement à partir du bas du corps, avec des pas courts, rapides et précis. Les jambes se déplacent en glissades, en pas rapides et en pivots, tandis que le torse reste stable et maintient une posture élégante.

Moe Sakan

Moe Sakan

Teacher

Born and raised in Osaka, Japan. Moe Sakan has had professional training in many types of dance from an early age.


In 1999 Moe fell in love with the world of Swing dance, since then this has been her dance of choice. Moe moved to London in 2000, bringing a sparkle to the local swing dancing scene, becoming the UK's top female swing dancer while also representing her origin. 


An active social and competition dancer, she is proud to have won numerous competition titles internationally, including the world’s biggest Jack ‘n Jill competition at Frankie 95 (2009). In 2017, she had the honour of being inducted into the Camp Hollywood Hall Of Fame. She has also enjoyed performing for several productions, including in theatre, television and films. 

Moe is a co-founder and proud member of London based “The Five Non-Blondes”. An award winning, all female, ethnically diverse authentic Jazz dance troupe. Moe is also is one half of a choreographing duo called “MoeTine-vation” with fellow Non-Blonde, Christine “Tine Machine” Gatchalian. 


Moe travels the world sharing her passion extensively both for performing and teaching Lindy Hop, Balboa and Shag. Well known as a vintage enthusiast, Moe is passionate about the music and fashion of the Swing era. Her dedication to the culture is also reflected in her attitude towards the dance, as she constantly endeavours to recreate an authentic style, and her passion certainly reflects the spirit of the dance as it was back in the day.

Jeremy Otth

Teacher

Jeremy Otth amassed a great amount of knowledge on the historic essence of vintage swing dances and personal stories and interactions with some of the original jitterbuggs and swing dancers. His interest has focused on the Lindy Hop, Balboa, Jazz and Collegiate Shag. Along with his seemingly inexhaustible amount of energy, Jeremy’s natural talent and dedication led him to accumulate championship titles at many acclaimed dance competitions such as the International Lindy Hop Championships, National Jitterbug Championships, American Classic Balboa Championships, California Balboa Classic and the US Open Swing Dance Championships. Jeremy is now able to share that breadth of knowledge and passion for these classic partner dances by entertaining and educating feet from Southern California to around the world.

Natalia Rueda

Teacher

Natalia discovered Balboa in 2005 in Ottawa, Canada, and it was love at first dance! Mentored by great second-generation Balboa dancers from California, USA, she swiftly transitioned from enthusiast to local instructor, earning her first Canadian Balboa Champion title in 2010. After 18 years of teaching Balboa locally and internationally, Natalia has shared her passion for this dance across continents.


Known for her lively and technically precise teaching approach, Natalia infuses her dance classes with infectious energy and a passion for the art of Balboa. Her dancing style, with roots in Colombian folk and partner dances, evolved through rigorous training in Ballet, Swing, and Jazz dances during her teenage years in Canada. Today, her carefully curated and distinctive flair makes her a standout presence on the dance floor.


Natalia is a Colombian native, and Canadian citizen, living in Utrecht, Netherlands.

Vasu Sharma

Vasu discovered Swing Dancing at the University of Florida and has been hooked ever since. His dedication to the art takes him around the globe to dance socially, perform, compete, and teach in Lindy Hop, Balboa, and Collegiate Shag. Renowned for his precise technique and enthusiasm for swing dancing at any tempo, Vasu loves pushing the boundaries with unconventional rhythms, shapes, and connections. With a special affinity for Pure Balboa, he constantly seeks to innovate and redefine traditional dance partnerships. Whether he's dancing all night on the social floor or rigorously training for competitions and performances, Vasu's passion for swing dancing is evident. A lifelong learner, he is equally passionate about sharing his extensive knowledge with others.

Maria Acuñas Gelabert

Maria Acuñas Gelabert

Maria Acuñas began dancing swing in 2014, and her love of the learning process has kept her going, adding more and more abilities and ideas to her distinctive style. She is a fan of high energy swing music, so Balboa was an obvious option for her next step.


She started Jazz Bouncing, a dance studio in Mallorca, in 2015, where she is the principal instructor of Lindy Hop and Balboa, quickly becoming one of the island's reference followers.


She has been dancing and competing in national and international events since the beginning of her dance career, winning various competitions, the most recent in Balboa being a second prize in Valencia Balboa or a first place in the European Balboa Championships.


Her dance is defined by her FUN and carefree style, with a strong emphasis on creativity, musicality, and partner communication.

Luis Arredondo

Teacher

Luis Arredondo is noted for his energetic dance style, risk-taking, never-ending smile, and   detailed approach to the learning process . He relocated to Toronto in 2011, where he lived for ten years, traveling, teaching, and competing across North America. He is now back in Spain, working to build the Balboa scene in Mallorca.


Luis likes to keep his lessons moving by including lots of positive energy, a creative approach to partnership conversation, and a healthy dose of technique. He likes to make sure that each class gets everything it needs to succeed, and no two classes are the same!


In North America and Europe, he has won and placed in numerous national and international contests.


He is excited to see you all!
